  • Deer Harbor Community Club is a registered non-profit located on beautiful Orcas Island, Washington. ***HISTORY*** Before the network of roads were built on Orcas, each community had it's own school and post office. Although the schools have been centralized we are still fortunate to have all the post offices buildings. The first school in Deer Harbor was built in 1891 and replaced by the building shown in 1905 which then served as the hamlets school until 1925, however, there were records from as early as 1905 that a club was organized in Deer Harbor for sociability. Soon after the school was closed, the building was purchased for $150 by the 'Ladies Aid Society'. The prominent role the ladies have played in the social life of the hamlet continues today as the Women's Auxiliary who organize activities throughout the year to benefit the residents of Deer Harbor. The building has an excellent pictorial history on each of the 4 walls inside the building. ***ACTIVITIES*** A potluck, open to everyone in the community, is held on the second Friday of each month starting at 6:30 pm. Membership includes a discount on hall rental. Special events include a Thanksgiving potluck, a Robert Burns supper in January and a Western BBQ in July. There is a regular meeting of a stitch and sew club and a quilt making group (contact Bev @ 376-8808). ***RENTAL*** The building, complete with working school bell and kitchen, is available for rental to non-members by arrangement with the rental officer (Clay Parsons @ 376-1490). In the past, the building has accommodated religious gatherings, exercise classes, weddings, family reunions, community meetings and dances. The rates are available on request.

  • Island Satellite & Internet provides DISH NETWORK and EXEDE broadband Internet services in the San Juan County Area. Company founders, husband and wife Ray and Tina Jackson, decided after two years of servicing the San Juan County area that a need for a more local presence was necessary, thus forming Island Satellite & Internet. We officially opened our doors in March 2012, in Friday Harbor (San Juan Island), providing a central storefront location in which residents of the county can now come request services and ask questions about the products and other services we provide. We are pleased that this venture was able to answer the need for a retail satellite office in the San Juan County Area.
