Ms. Brook's Art Camp takes place at beautiful LUM Farm here on Orcas Island, Washington.
Camp takes place in a picturesque private spot with a huge old willow tree on a lily pond surrounded by old fir trees.
We do different projects every day and we work with all kinds of art supplies from paint to pastel, collage to assemblage, and from cardboard to clay.
Projects are inspired by various artists, cultures and art movements.
The older kid sessions do more involved projects and campers get to help decide what we make.
This Summer there is also ADULT(or Family) Art Camp! Offered some Thursdays and Fridays during the Summer.
Brook Meinhardt was born and raised in NYC. She graduated from Parsons School of Design and started illustrating professionally when she was still in college. Her work has appeared in many different newspapers and magazines such as The N.Y.Times, Rolling Stone and The New Yorker. She got her start in illustration with her cardboard creations.
Flash forward to Orcas Island where she has been teaching Art for over 15 years. She created Cardboard Camp when her kids were young. During covid she made over 1000 FREE Art Kits for the community.
Her Beach Trash Bird Art Project has inspired the creation of over 1000 birds by students from ALL of the San Juan Islands. She currently teaches Art in the Orcas Island School District (K - 8th grade) and teaches after school art and some adult art classes.
Currently she continues to make and sell her art. Her plywood relief portrait of Abe Lincoln can be seen between the Orcas Island Public School Library and Cafeteria.
