A CHRISTIAN LECTURE SERIES AT THE ORCAS ISLAND COMMUNITY CHURCH

The Orcas Island Community Church continues its Christian Growth in Knowledge program. This lecture series intends to explore, in depth, topics of interest to Christians seeking a deeper understanding of their faith, its history and teachings. The next in the series is: Key Turning Points in Christian History, presented by Gary Roosma, a minister in the Christian Reformed Church and has served as a missionary-educator in Papua New Guinea and Malaysia, most recently as professor of history and missions at Sabah Theological Seminary. Cost: Single Event Individual – $20.00, Couple – $35.00; Full Series (4 events) Individual – $65.00, Couple – $115.00.

Healing Arts Center’s Christopher Evans Teaching at Orcas Senior Center

(Month of February beginning Feb 1; Mondays @ 1 pm and Thursdays @ 10 am)

Christopher Evans will be offering Transformational Movement Lessons (TML’s) twice a week during the month of February. Christopher, a licensed massage practitioner, just completed a three year training to be certified in the Anat Baniel Method, based on the work of Moshe Feldenkrais. Participation in the class greatly enhances flexibility, strength, coordination and well being. These classes have helped people overcome pain, reverse the symptoms of aging, re-discover vitality, improve performance and discover the joy and pleasure of movement. Christopher will teach a class of 8 TML’s. Cost for the 8 class series is $60. (0128)

DANCE CLASSES AND MORE AT SALMONBERRY SCHOOL

Beginning January 11, two Creative Dance Classes will be offered with teacher Jamie Mulligan-Smith.
• Monday’s class is open to 4, 5 and 6 year olds, from 3:20 – 4: 20 pm
• Wednesday’s class is open to children ages 7 – 10; from 3:20 – 4:20 pm
The fee is $6 for drop ins or $20 for all 4 sessions. Students will explore a wide variety of dance forms in a safe and playful environment. The classes will provide a fully engaging and active experience for children while also teaching mindfulness, presence and body awareness. Salmonberry will also continue to offer its drop its parent/child drop in playgroup every Thursday from 1 to 3 pm in our early childhood classroom. ‘PICTURING AMERICA’ ON EXHIBIT AT ORCAS CENTER

Orcas Center opens 2010 with a big new exhibit from the National Endowment for the Humanities, PICTURING AMERICA. Tracing the history of America through artistic masterpieces, this exhibit reveals how great American art brings our story to life and helps insure that these ideals are studied, passed on and remembered. Shown throughout the country, this exhibit can now be enjoyed by Orcas Islanders! It will show through February. The exhibit is sponsored by the Palettes.
