Description
Forest Ceramic Company is located on Orcas Island, WA, and owned and managed by Sean Forest Roberts.
With a background in chemistry and four years of work experience in science labs, I bring an experimental mindset to my artistic process. My work is constantly changing as I explore new ways of creating pattern, texture, and form. I am deeply fascinated by the underlying randomness in the patterns and structures of nature, and I attempt to replicate some of those effects in my work.
Born and raised in Bulgaria, Valeri Aleksandrov moved to Orcas Island in 2015 after spending 5 summers on the island beforehand. With a masters degree in financial management and banking, he never thought his life will shift dramatically, with clay being a career and full time job. Mentored by Sean, Valeri began his journey in porcelain in 2015, and has been a part of the company since the beginning. Over the course of the last 6 years, he’s been mastering his own unique hand-carved, nature inspired layered colored porcelain styles and have helped along the way developing the business side by side with his partner Sean.
Our work is the product of 8 years of experimentation with marbling and layering and carving colored slips. Colored liquid clays are mixed and poured to create the vast array of patterns available in our designs.
