Spider-Man: Brand New Day

A brand-new chapter. A spectacular new adventure. And Spider-Man is once again the biggest movie event of the summer.

Tom Holland swings back onto the big screen as Peter Parker in SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY, an exhilarating, funny and surprisingly emotional new adventure that takes Marvel’s most beloved superhero back to his roots—while launching him into an entirely new era.

Following the unforgettable ending of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the world no longer remembers Peter Parker. Alone in New York and separated from the friends who once meant everything to him, Peter has dedicated himself completely to being Spider-Man. But when the mounting pressure of his double life begins triggering a dangerous and unexpected physical transformation, Peter finds himself facing a threat unlike anything he has encountered before. Marvel itself describes the film as the beginning of a new existence for a Peter Parker who is now fighting crime full-time in a city that no longer knows his name.

“EXCITING, EMOTIONALLY POWERFUL, OFTEN HILARIOUS.”

— Forbes

And audiences have responded in spectacular fashion.

SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY shattered the all-time domestic opening-weekend record with approximately $360 million, overtaking Avengers: Endgame. Its extraordinary run continued into its second weekend with another $144.5 million, making it only the eighth movie in history to earn more than $100 million during its sophomore weekend.

The response from moviegoers has been equally impressive: the film has earned an extraordinary 98% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, alongside strong critical notices.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the filmmaker behind Marvel’s acclaimed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the movie reunites Tom Holland with Zendaya as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned, while dramatically expanding Spider-Man’s corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Joining them is an exceptional ensemble including Sadie Sink, Emmy winner Jon Bernthal returning as the ruthless Frank Castle/The Punisher, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk, Michael MandoSeverance standout Tramell Tillman, and Marvin Jones III as the formidable Tombstone. Sony officially lists Holland, Zendaya, Sink, Batalon, Bernthal, Tillman, Mando and Ruffalo among the film’s principal cast.

One of the things that makes BRAND NEW DAY feel different is that the filmmakers deliberately brought Spider-Man back into the real world.

After No Way Home was forced to rely heavily on soundstages because of pandemic-era restrictions, Holland and Cretton wanted this chapter to once again have the energy of physical locations, practical stunt work and street-level action. Much of the production was filmed across the United Kingdom, with the streets of Glasgow transformed into New York City for a huge action sequence. Additional filming took place at legendary Pinewood Studios, around London and at locations throughout England.

Even more exciting for action fans: the film’s elaborate fight sequences were coordinated with members of the Jackie Chan Stunt Team, who previously worked with Cretton on Shang-Chi. Holland performed extensive physical work himself and later described Brand New Day as the most creatively fulfilling filming experience of his career.

The title itself is significant. “Brand New Day” comes from the celebrated Spider-Man comic-book storyline that reinvented Peter Parker’s life, and Holland has described this film not simply as “Spider-Man 4,” but as a rebirth and the first movie of an entirely new chapter for the character.

That fresh-start approach gives the film something the best Spider-Man stories have always possessed: enormous spectacle paired with a deeply human hero. Beneath the swinging, battles and blockbuster action is Peter Parker trying to understand who he is when virtually everything that once defined his life has disappeared.

After more than a decade playing the character, Tom Holland delivers a more mature Peter Parker without losing the humor, vulnerability and irrepressible spirit that made audiences fall in love with his Spider-Man in the first place.

SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY is exactly what the big screen was made for—huge action, beloved characters, surprising new faces and one of cinema’s greatest superheroes soaring through New York once again. See it big. See it loud. And experience the movie audiences around the world are turning into the blockbuster event of the summer.
