The Holiday on the Green tree lighting is a beloved tradition marking the start of the holiday season on Orcas Island. Held each year on the first Saturday in December, the tree lighting is hosted by the Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with other community organizations and sponsored by island businesses. The evening is full of family fun, including visits with Santa, free hot cocoa and hot apple cider, a beer & wine tent, food trucks, market vendors, and a bonfire. Performances from island groups such as the Orcas Island Community Band, Orcas Choral Society, the Orcas Dance Collective, and other special appearances grace the stage. The highlight of the evening is the lighting of a large evergreen tree on the Village Green, adorned with hundreds of white lights as the entire community joins in the countdown.
