The village of Eastsound transforms into a Halloween wonderland each year, drawing hundreds of costumed participants for a truly spooktacular trick-or-treating experience. The event, sponsored by the Orcas Island Chamber of Commerce, creates a safe and festive atmosphere for all ages. North Beach Road is closed to traffic, allowing little ghosts and goblins to roam freely and collect treats from the many participating businesses and residents. A highlight of the evening is the Chamber's costume contest, where kids and adults alike can show off their creative and often elaborate costumes for a chance to win prizes. The competition is spirited but all in good fun, with categories for all ages celebrating creativity and imagination, including upcycled and handmade entries. The fun includes “Trunk or Treat” hosted by The Sea View Theater in its parking lot, with decorated car trunks overflowing with candy, and featuring adult libations and a photobooth. Adding to the community spirit, the Orcas Island Community Church usually holds a Fall Festival with games, food, and other family-friendly activities.
Beyond these featured events, many other organizations and community groups participate, adding their own special touch to the festivities. You might find pumpkin carving, spooky storytelling, a cotton candy machine, trick-or-treating for books at the public library, and other Halloween-themed activities popping up throughout the village. The entire town comes alive with the spirit of Halloween, making Eastsound's trick-or-treating a truly memorable and much-anticipated evening.
