The Islands' Sounder is a weekly newspaper serving the Orcas Island community in Washington State. Founded in 1964 as The Orcas Sounder by Al and Nickee Magnuson, it was the first competitor to the Friday Harbor Journal since 1914. In 1974, the publication expanded its scope and was renamed the Islands' Sounder. After transitioning to a subscriber format under Ted and Kay Grossman in 1985, it was acquired by Sound Publishing, Inc. in 1994.
The newspaper covers a wide range of topics, including local news, events, sports, and community issues pertinent to Orcas Island residents. It maintains an active online presence, offering digital editions and updates through its website and social media platforms.
As part of Sound Publishing's network, which also includes The Journal and Islands' Weekly, the Islands' Sounder plays a crucial role in delivering timely and relevant information to the San Juan County community.
