Orcas Biomass, operated by Rain Shadow Consulting, processes local wood waste on Orcas Island, turning tree trimmings, forest slash, and other debris into firewood, wood chips, and biochar.
This operation helps reduce wildfire risk, improve forest health, and provide sustainable, locally sourced products for the community.
In addition to biomass processing, Rain Shadow Consulting mills boards and slabs from a variety of local trees, often salvaged after storms or logging operations.
Using their Wood-Mizer LT-70 sawmill, they produce high-quality lumber at their Orcas Road shop, with the flexibility to bring their portable mill to job sites for larger projects. By keeping wood waste out of landfills and putting it to practical use, Orcas Biomass supports both environmental stewardship and local resilience.
