The Orcas Island Garden Club is a non-profit organization boasting over 176 members; over 15% have become Washington State University Master Gardeners. The membership represents a broad cross-section of islanders with a multitude of gardening interests. Some are recent arrivals to the island eager to learn about the wonderful local gardening opportunities, and some are seasoned gardeners who have been islanders for many years. Some grow beautiful flowers and others raise vegetables or have orchards. Some are most interested in the Club's outstanding lecture series, some look forward to the stunning annual garden tours, and others enjoy the camaraderie of the social hour following meetings. The Orcas Island Garden Club has a long tradition of involvement in Civic Projects. Currently the Club - **Furnishes and arranges flowers for some of the Orcas Center events, **Donates gardening magazine subscriptions to the Orcas Island Public Library, **Belongs and contributes to the San Juan Preservation Trust, the Chamber of Commerce and the Orcas Center. The Orcas Island Garden Club also has provided grant money for the following Civic Projects: **Landscaping for the Historical Museum and Senior Center, **Weather data recording instruments, classroom books and child-size garden tools for the Farm to Cafeteria Program, **Demonstration garden for the Orcas Island Public Library, **Grant to the Orcas Island Participatory Agriculture garden. Meetings take place on the 3rd Wednesday of each month, September through May, in the Madrona Room at the Orcas Center and start at 10:00 AM. Typically our sessions begin with a short business meeting followed by the Program. All attendees are then invited to a hosted social hour with coffee, tea and appetizers.
Join us for our 2020 Garden Tour on June 27th & 28th. The Orcas Island Garden Tour features 5 lovely gardens offering interesting plants and features.
